What Our Clients Say

Senior Rugby Player
"I was suffering from recurring back pain due to an injury in the early part of my career and I got a recommendation for Rory O'Donoghue on the basis of his extensive experience in treating sports injuries. After 3 sessions my back felt better than it had for years and I haven't looked back since. Well done Rory ! "

"I hurt my knee badly in a representative match against Ulster. I had an important club game the following week and I knew it was very unlikely I would be able to play. Rory was recommened and I attended his clinic for a number of massage, acupuncture and APS therapy sessions. To everyones amazement I recovered in time and completely thanks to Rory's expert care and obvious experience in dealing with injuries like mine "

Senior Citizen
"I came to Rory when I was nearing retirement after I was told by a friend who had attended Rory he was very good with arthritis. I was not looking forward to retirement because I was so stiff and sore all the time.. So I went to Rory for treatment and the rest is history. Well that was 15 years ago and I am still enjoying my retirement, playing golf, pitch and putt, traveling etc ! I can't thank Rory enough. I now go to Rory once a week for a general massage, it keeps me in shape and keeps the aches and pains at bay. Thanks Rory!

What are the health benefits of Massage?

Commenting on the benefits of massage, Judith Ashton, president of the Irish Massage Therapy Association says, "It effects every single system in the body. You can work with massage in specific ways for trauma injury and a whole range of physical and psychological problems."

While it is not intended as a replacement for prescribed medical treatments, the mental and physical relaxation responses induced by massage and bodywork activate internal healing processes. Research demonstrates that massage lowers heart rate and blood pressure, increases circulation, relaxes the muscle, improves the range of motion, reduces stress and promotes mental alertness. The American Massage Therapy Association lists the further benefits of relieving allergies, arthritis, asthma, depression, digestive disorders, headache, insomnia and sinusitis. Both doctors and psychologists often recommend various forms of massage to support conventional medical treatments.

Dr. Simon Curtis of the Blackrock Osteopath clinic in Blackrock, County Dublin believes there are many psychological and physical benefits to be gained from massage. "Lots of experiments have proven that people respond very well to hands-on contact," he says. "We find massage to be a useful adjunct to what we do. If problems with overall muscular tension occur through stress, then massage is very beneficial. If the problem has to do with fluid drainage or congestion in the tissues, then massage is very valuable."

Studies conducted at the Touch Research Institute in the University of Miami's School of Medicine show that massage therapy reduced aggressive behaviour in adolescents and helped nursing home residents maintain a more positive outlook. The institute is most famous for publishing the results of a test on the impact of massage on premature babies. The research clearly demonstrated that babies who received massage experienced weight gain, improved mental and motor functioning and were discharged earlier from the hospital than those babies who did not receive massage.
